This position is located the VA Pacific Island Healthcare System (VAPIHCS) in Honolulu, HI. This position reports to the ACOS-Associate Chief of Staff for Research & Development. The primary purpose of this position is to lead VAPIHCS efforts to increase mental health research using existing data systems by creating datasets, managing data, and conducting research projects which utilize these databases.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plans, develops and directs complex scientific and administrative activities necessary to advance innovative research programs;
Leads and participates in the activities of the research teams within Research & Development;
Leads data modeling, analytics and on-going and future mental health research;
Initiates policies, procedures and organizational structures necessary to achieve the stipulated goals;
Provides facilitation and oversight of collaboration with the University affiliate and Pacific Health Research and Education Institute;
Serves as Point of Contact for the VAPIHCS research community that wants to utilize the VA data bases;
Assists in the development, and review of policies and procedures for the research program;
Develops and leads a comprehensive independent research program;
Publishes articles in peer reviewed journals;
Maintains peer reviewed research support;
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences that is appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Transcripts required.
In additional to the basic education requirement, applicants must meet the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-14: Possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes leadership in national and international mental health research programs; experience as a principal investigator on at least 1 large multi-year funded project; obtaining funding for development of research plans; and performing data modeling, analytics, and display for ongoing and future mental health research . NOTE: This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.
