Serves as a staff assistant and program analyst to the Chief, Data Integrity- Compensation & Pension and Environmental Exams Section of Medical Administration Service for the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center.

Duties

Major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Screens veteran packets for inclusion in Environmental Exam (Agent Orange/Burn Pit/Ionized Radiation) and schedules appointments as necessary. Schedules and makes appointments for the Compensation and Pension Program Advises the Program Director and/or Supervisor of important issues arising during communicating with Staff & veterans. Collaborates with other services for scheduling ancillary exams as part of the C&P examination process. Knowledgeable of VA benefits as they relate to disability compensation; pension, healthcare· benefits, registry examinations, entitlement, and processing. Thorough knowledge of VHA procedures, policies, and circulars regarding the completion of exams and special studies initiated through VA Central Office, VA Regional Office, Medical Center, and the Medical Administration Service. Broad knowledge of VISTA and the ability to load, edit, and retrieve a wide variety of medical and administrative information. Ability to keep work current, assembling reports daily, scheduling upon receipt and routing examinations promptly for diagnosis signature and approval. Possesses the ability to cope successfully with individuals who may be in the various stages of psychosis, alcoholism, major or minor physical ailments and/or disabilities; or those who are belligerent or unreasonable. Intervene and resolve disputes between veterans and the specialized Examination Unit processes in a professional and tactful manner. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/16/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience GS-07: Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Applicants may qualify for this position by using their work experience, education, or a combination of both experience and education. To qualify for this position, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to....specialized experience to Screens veteran packets for inclusion in Environmental Exam (Agent Orange/Burn Pit/Ionized Radiation) and schedules appointments as necessary; Schedules and makes appointments for the Compensation and Pension Program Advises the Program Director and/or Supervisor of important issues arising during communicating with Staff & veterans; Knowledgeable of VA benefits as they relate to disability compensation; pension, healthcare· benefits, registry examinations, entitlement, and processing; Communicates with veterans, families of veterans, Med Center staff, providers and external customers in a positive and appropriate manner. OR Education: Applicant may also based their qualification for this position on education. At this level, applicants are required to have successfully completed1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. OR Combination: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of this position require some mobility between the C&P office and various other clinics/offices located within the facility, some physical exertion, such as walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and ling moderately heavy objects such as medical records.
