The position serves as the Secretary for the Chief, Medical Administration Service and provides administrative and program support.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Accepts and supports the guiding principles of this medical center.
Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.
Actively supports the team concept and functions as a team player.
Contributes to team initiatives and continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of all teams in the Service.
Serves as a resource person for MAS staff requesting tuition, authorized absence for continuing education and travel arrangements.
Coordinates the travel and hotel arrangements for MAS staff to attend conferences, meetings and training outside the Medical Center.
Maintains and time and attendance records for the MAS employees and provides advice and guidance to employees seeking informationon preparation of specific types of requests, i.e., LWOP, FMLA, advanced leave, etc. Maintains tracking for FMLA, LWOP and extended leave for MAS.
Schedules appointments and meetings, maintains the Service Chief's calendar and, reserves conference rooms, attends to special needs of the Chief, MAS based upon personal knowledge of previous commitments and workload.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30-4pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/16/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Prepares Memos, Letters and Congressional's for Medicine Service
Uses a wide variety of computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc) to develop and maintain spreadsheets, prepare correspondence and reports and perform analysis
Maintains tracking logs, administrative suspense items, and transaction records for areas of oversight and prepares necessary reports
Aids in getting work accomplished through extensive knowledge and understanding of the organization, regulations, methods, processes and other tools or resources of management.
Responsible for compiling, preparing and timely submittal of reports.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary involving but does involve some bending, stooping, reaching, lifting of light items, and walking. Considerable time is spent sitting utilizing a computer for typing/word processing.
