This position is for a motor vehicle operator for the VA St. Louis Medical Center. Incumbent operates a variety of vehicles including, but not limited to, passenger busses, linen, food, and dump trucks as well as all grounds maintenance equipment (i.e. mowers, back-hoe, snow removal equipment, etc.)

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The incumbent must possess the physical requirements to secure and maintain a valid Class B CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsement. The position requires feet, leg, eye and hand coordination in braking, steering, shifting and accelerating. Muscular effort and strength is required to assist passengers on to and off of the busses, as well as load and unload cargo by him/herself with some weighing up to 60 lbs, and loading and unloading wheeled carts weighing up to 800 lbs.
Working Conditions: The incumbent performs work outside in all types of weather. While driving there is constant exposure to traffic noise and road hazards. Vehicle breakdowns may subject the incumbent to other highway hazards/risks. He/she is regularly exposed to dust, flying debris (such as grass, twigs, etc.) from grounds activities, diesel fumes, and high noise levels when utilizing power equipment. He/she may also be exposed to irate or emotionally disturbed passengers, contagious diseases, etc. Personnel protective equipment is provided to lessen impact of these conditions.
