THIS IS AN ARIZONA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is in the Excepted Service "under the authority of Title V, P.L. 114-328, Sections 932 and 1084 (FY17 NDAA). This position is part of the AZ 162nd Wing, Arizona National Guard underPDT6329000 PDT6329000.

Duties

This position is located with the 162d Air Wing in Tucson, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the Fire Chief responsible for the overall management and supervision of the fire protection/crash rescue and fire prevention program for the base.

Requirements

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer Program.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver’s license.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a secret security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • This position is subject to rotation or night shift work and the incumbent may work a minimum 56 or 60-hour work week with supervisor's approval.

  • Position covered as secondary under the FERS special retirement provisions for Federal firefighters [5 USC 8401(14), 5 USC 8412 (d), and 5 CFR 842.802]. Authority: Secretary of Defense Memorandum, dated 31 Aug 89 OR.
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. (cont)
  • This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
  • Recruitment, Relocation, or Retention Incentive may be offered and is subject to availability of funds.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Air Force Drug Free Workplace programs.  Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. (cont.)
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty incident.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and or Personal Protective Equipment while on duty.
  • This position requires the completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).  A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. Have experience in rescue operations; experience in detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; experience in operation of fire communications equipment; experience in controlling hazardous materials incidents; and, developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

Education

You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
