The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.
This position is located on in the Animal Metabolism Agricultural Chemical Research Unit.

Duties
Conduct absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion studies in food animals dosed with a suite of perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) /Responsibility.
Describe the absorption and tissue distribution of PFAS after sub-chronic oral exposure.
Describe the transfer of PFAS to edible products (milk, meat, eggs).
Describe the depletion kinetics (withdrawal) of parent compounds from food animals and food animal products.
Conduct ADME studies with a variety of chemical, chromatographic, and physiochemical (NMR, mass spectrometry) techniques used to identify parent compounds and describe their accumulation and/or depletion from food animal products.
Utilize scientific software for pharmacokinetic modelling and statistical data analysis.

Qualifications
This position requires a recent Ph.D in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, animal science or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Working knowledge of chemical extraction from tissue and environmental matrices, mass spectrometry, chromatography, and laboratory safety. Knowledge of the principles of drug metabolism, pharmacology, and(or) toxicology is also desirable.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Chemistry Series, 1320
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience: course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
