THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION UNIT: MATES#1 LOCATION: CAMP RIPLEY MN SELECTING OFFICIAL: CW3 Grant M. Meyer (320) 616-3042 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED

Duties

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list A MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER, WG-6912-7, (1) Inspects, receives, sorts, counts, and classifies hazardous materials such as explosives, toxic chemicals, flammables, gas cylinders, radioactive material, and hazardous waste. May be required to perform pre-receipt examination of property on site at the generation point and assures that the turn-in and shipping is in order, that the containers meet standards, are placarded and marked properly. Schedules receipt of property and assures that the property is identified to include identification of all contaminants. Rejects property not meeting turn-in requirements and assists the turn-in activity to correct any rejections. Determines the nature and degree of the particular hazard involved. Assures that storage compatibility is adhered. (2) Prepares material for shipment, storage, and disposition. Packs, cushions, applies preservatives and protects property as appropriate. Prepares tags, labels and places items in containers for disposition. Identifies and marks storage locations and stocks property allowing for maximum utilization of storage space, ease of access, segregation, and rotation of stock. Selects property desired, checks condition, status and quantity and arranges for transfer. Determines processing requirements IAW established criteria. (3) Contacts generating activities, shipping agencies, and National Guard (NG) environmental personnel to coordinate requirements of environmental policies and directives. May serve as the hazardous materials specialist in meetings, discussions, and liaison visits. Initiates and maintains required environmental reports/plans/records in processing of hazardous material. Ensures required actions if a spill occurs and ensures lower graded workers are trained to act in his/her absence. Contains and cleans up spills for which the NG has capability. (4) Coordinates turn-in activities with the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) or contractors. May be assigned as the Contracting Officer's representative (COR) for contracts. Accompanies the contractor during removal of material from the installation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: WO3 and Below Failure to obtain a compatible MOS may result in termination of employment. GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:Experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment. Experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas. Experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions. Experience in mathematical equations. Experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals. Experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles. Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools.
