Duties

Applies a broad range of geologic and/or geochemical techniques to acquire data and samples. Develops, monitors, and manages project plans that outline the scope, schedule, and/or budget of assigned projects. Evaluate exploration Site Analysis, Site inspections, hazardous materials and abandon mine lands. Manage the field office geology and paleontology program including: GIS data base for AML, geology, paleontology, and all applicable minerals. Makes geological observations, computations, and measurements.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for the 1350 series: Must have successfully completed a degree in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. OR Must have a combination of education and experience -- course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Must also meet the OPM minimum qualifications listed below: Minimum qualifications for the 1350 series at the GS-09: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Applied a variety of processes and analytical methods to the preparation and analysis of field/remote sensing observations and/or laboratory samples; developed, monitored, managed project plans that outline the scope, schedule, and/or budget of assigned projects; provided support in connection with regulatory program oversight, policy and rulemaking efforts, review of regulatory compliance issues, and resolution of geology related issues. OR I have 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Minimum qualifications for the 1350 series at the GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Produced a variety of processes and analytical methods to the preparation and analysis of field/remote sensing observations and/or laboratory samples; developed, monitored, managed project plans that outline the scope, schedule, and/or budget of assigned projects; provided support in connection with regulatory program oversight, policy and rulemaking efforts, review of regulatory compliance issues, and resolution of geology related issues. OR I have 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
