This position is part of the Defense Media Activity. The incumbent will be responsible for producing and directing audiovisual and web-based streaming support for DMA, Navy Production Division. .

Duties

As a Audiovisual Production Specialist at the GS-1071-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Collaborates in planning sessions with clients, including the senior level military public affairs officials to coordinate best methods for capturing and transmitting on DoD Web platforms and for posting to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS). Provides overall production supervision, including preparation for production, to ensure that lighting, sets, sound, camera angles, visuals and special audio and video effects, including graphic art digital non-linear video formats are utilized effectively. Directs and helps to identify the best distribution paths to stream and share video products on DoD Web platforms world-wide. Operates with expertise video cameras, editing equipment, including recorders, switchers, broadcast routers, computer software editors, character generators, audio mixers, microphones, and graphics generators to produce preliminary and final video products. Produces and creates live webcast or television broadcast of coverage-of-record for OASD (PA) of DoD public affairs briefings and events for worldwide dissemination and permanent archive.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Provides overall production supervision, including preparation for production, to ensure that lighting, sets, sound, camera angles, visuals and special audio and video effects, including graphic art digital non-linear video formats are utilized effectively. Controls pre-production, production, and post-production of video productions, meeting commercial broadcast standards in areas of production, to include graphics presentation, audio and video quality. Provides professional guidance on the feasibility of the production and determines the broadcast requirements, techniques, methods, and procedures to be used to achieve the objective. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1071 series. A. Undergraduate and Graduate Education:Major study -- photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. B. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work directly connected with the production aspects of the field(s) of the position to be filled. *NOTE: If using your education to meet the IOR for the series, failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
