This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as Senior Maintenance Mechanic with responsibility for overseeing the work of less than 3 full-time workers on a man-year basis. Responsibility includes the planning, assigning, leading by active participation.

Duties

Operates and maintains all electrical components, panels, and circuitry for all major structures as well as associated office buildings, storage and shop facilities and marine vessels. Operate and maintain equipment with small engines such as chain saws, weed whippers, lawn tractors and mowers. Maintains, repairs, alters and constructs exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of a variety of brick, block and stone. Construct and repair a wide variety of roofing and structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, roofing and guttering. Operate and maintain pneumatic and electric impact drills, grinders, chain saws, band saws, circular saws, hand drills, drill presses, reamers, and metal fabrication machines. Operates safely equipment such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, skid steers, forklift, front end loaders, and motor vehicles pulling equipment trailers. Safely, tow by trailer, launch, and operates small crafts (boats) of up to 26 ft in length. Troubleshoots, formulate solutions, and repair or replace water utility systems, such as sewer distribution, and restroom facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must maintain both a boat and motor vehicle license. May be required to maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL). May be requested to be certified to operate water and wastewater systems.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical. Incumbent is required to frequently lift and carry parts and items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Physical Effort: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 5O ­pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
