This position is located in Education, Audience Engagement, Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum (SAWHM), Under Secretary for Museums and Culture, Smithsonian Institution (SI). SAWHM was established in December 2020 and aims to recognize women’s accomplishments, the history they made and the communities they represent. This position manages SAWHM’s research and training opportunities including individual and cohort internship programs, fellowships and other scholarly appointments.
Duties
Coordinate logistics and maintain records of committee members, applicants and appointees, and correspond with them on program matters.
Ensure that office procedures and controls for review and appointment of fellows and interns comply with legal IRS requirements and SI guidelines for research collaborator-associate appointments.
Support effective communication strategies, including web and social media tools, to promote fellowships, internships and academic program offerings. Assist with publicity of programs and recommends changes and revisions of existing materials (including electronic information.
Schedule work to assure timely application review cycle. Review awards, stipends and allowances and make recommendations to the Program Chief and Chair of Academic Programs.
Track income and expenditures from a wide variety of Federal and Trust funds.
Regularly inventory and order a variety of goods and services.
Assist staff members by responding to telephone calls, e-mail and visitors; establish and maintain filing system in electronic and hard copy format.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as supporting the administration and management of intern and fellowship programs; working with/within administrative regulations and operating procedures; applying fact-finding and administrative techniques; financial record keeping and reconciliation; procurement and contracting; delivering information to a public audience; organizing work processes; and working with academic program software.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.Or Education:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
