PUERTO RICO NATIONAL GUARD AIR TECHNICIAN VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Duty Location: 156th Wing, Civil Engineer Squadron, Muñiz ANG Base, Carolina, PR

Duties

This position require military membership in the Puerto Rico AIr National Guard (PRANG) Selected applicant(s) will be required to complete an online Onboarding process.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • If selected for this position who is not qualified in one of the mentioned AFSC, MUST submit to HRO, before date of appointment, the correct military paperwork/application to attend the technical training school required to be AFSC Qualified.
  • If selectee fails to process the school application and does not successfully graduate from the school, he/she will be terminated from the technician program for failure to meet the compatibility standards and receive a 30 day's notice of separation.

Qualifications

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard (PRANG). If you are not a military member of the PRANG (i.e. member of the PR Army NG, civilian, active-duty Airman, prior service, Airman member from another state, reservist, IRR, State Guard, etc.), you must contact the State Production Superintendent (SPS) Office at (787) 787-289-1400 extension 1713 or (787) 529-6102 and request the PRANG Military Basic Requirements (MBR) Certification. If the MBR Certification is not submitted, or you do not meet the requirements to be a member of the PRANG, your application will not be screened. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements. Area 1 = All permanent Technician Enlisted members employees (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Air National Guard. DUTIES: As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (D1334000), WU-5378-10, you will install, repair, maintain, service, and modify scheduled and unscheduled inspections on aircraft arresting systems and electrical power production equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement is required. Some work performed in awkward positions or in cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or other helpers. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works inside and outside. Frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures and loud noises. May be exposed to bad weather and irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard, damp floors. Works with high voltage electrical power and must come in contact with petroleum products. Works on equipment parts that are dirty and greasy and may be dangerous to operation or repair because of defects. Frequently exposed to cuts, burns, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, adjusting, positioning, or moving equipment. Exposed to the possibility of burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. Follows safety procedures and wears protective glasses and clothing which may be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Personnel are required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in case of aircraft engagements, power outages and/or other system problems. SELECTED FACTOR: Must possess a Special Experience Identifier of SEI 331, and recertify every three years, to certify aircraft arresting systems back into service after major and minor repairs and after an aircraft engagement (copy of the required document (DD214 or certificate) MUST be submitted with your application in order to be considerate for this position). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least EIGHTEEN (18) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as performing inspections, and off-equipment maintenance, on aircraft arresting systems; accomplishing gasoline engine rebuilding; checking and/or adjusting valves, bearings, cams, bushings, gear boxes, sprockets, chains and fairlead beam components; doing stripping, sanding and painting of aircraft arresting systems; using test equipment such as voltmeters, megohmmeters, ampmeters, ohmmeters continuity tester, feelergage and other test equipment; solving all repair or maintenance problems using technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and technical orders; performing maintenance on arresting system; troubleshooting controlled heating systems and position control systems; replacing heater elements, mercury switches, and solid state heater control units; operating and troubleshooting radio control systems; coordinating all aircraft arresting systems duties which requires access to active runways; scheduling and coordinating exercises as rewind procedures, operations and annual certification engagements; installing portable aircraft arresting systems worldwide; training traditional guardsmen in the operation and maintenance of aircraft arresting systems; maintaining records for documentation of preventive maintenance, repairs, tape and cable life, and all aircraft engagements.
