There may or may not be actual vacancies filled from this flyer. The normal work schedule is 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday with occasional overtime.

Duties

Responsible for repair and maintenance of machinery in connection with the engine room, except repairs requiring machine work. Maintains adequate stock of repair parts and supplies. Makes periodic inspection of same to insure adequate and efficient work. Makes necessary reports on maintenance and repair work. Performs miscellaneous maintenance and repairs on all components of the floating plant including plumbing, electric, refrigeration, and hydraulics systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Physical is required.
  • Shift work is required.
  • TDY of 20% is required.
  • At a minimum, within 48 months of entry, must possess a U. S. Coast Guard license as an a) Designated Duty Engineer (minimum 2,000 HP, or; b) 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Assistant Engineer, (minimum 2000 HP).
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Incumbent is required to report to the vessel (wherever it is located) at the beginning of the work week and live on the vessel during the work week.

Qualifications

The Direct Hiring Authority for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a First Assistant Engineer, Towboat without more than normal supervision. You must possess knowledge of the principles of operation and repair of a diesel-powered engine, auxiliary machinery, utility system, etc. Skill in the repair of mechanical, deck machinery, and electrical equipment aboard the floating plant. Skill to operate and maintain marine machinery and tools used in performance of repair and maintenance work. Must be able to repair a wide variety of equipment and systems including plumbing, electric, refrigeration, hydraulic, and waste treatment systems. PHYSICAL EFFORT Incumbent is required to exert moderate to heavy physical effort in operating and making repairs to engine and equipment. Parts, equipment, and systems are in hard-to-reach places requiring the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITION Work is performed primarily inside. There is some exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. When working outside, incumbent is exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors. Typically the machinery worked on is dirty, oily, or greasy.
