This position is part of the Havasupai Elementary School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a School Maintenance Worker you will be responsible for completing and monitoring the maintenance activities of the school to include planning and reporting maintenance concerns.
This is a SCHOOL YEAR contract position filled under P.L. 95-561 and will require a contract renewal on an annual basis.
Duties
As a School Maintenance Worker CY-4749-2, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately to the Principal.
Reviews work order assignments. Discusses specific work requests with the Principal, as needed, making sure orders have been written and approved before performing tasks, except in emergency situations. Completes work assigned.
Maintains the physical facilities of the school by performing a wide variety of general upkeep and repair tasks, including but not limited to: replacing light bulbs, ceiling and floor tile replacement, roof and drain cleaning and repairs, servicing lock and hardware devices, welding, repairing, and replacing window screens, mirror cutting and replacements, wall repairs including patching and painting, boarding up and replacement of broken or damaged windows/doors, etc.
Moves and delivers furniture, basic preventative maintenance, and care and maintenance of hand and power tools required for the job. Assures equipment is properly cared for and maintained as necessary for continued efficiency.
Works with School Operations - Facilities for guidance on operation & maintenance of HVAC system, such as changing filters and reporting change in the HVAC system's operating status.
Check the functionality of safety systems, including alarms, and ensure that they are properly set and reset as required.
Maintains the physical condition of outdoor facilities of the School by performing a wide variety of basic landscaping and repair tasks including but not limited to: general upkeep and repair tasks, string trimming, mowing and edging, raking, weeding and bed work, pruning of shrubbery and light tree pruning, leaf removal, blowing of hard surfaces, transplanting and planting materials, assisting with landscape cleanup projects.
Performing a variety of custodial essential duties including but not limited to: vacuuming, cleaning, dusting, sweeping, moping, carpet cleaning, trash removal, etc.
Performs grounds maintenance as required.
Operates and maintains in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities. efficiency.
Ensures and follows all applicable proper safety procedures when operating equipment and complies with all fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws such as OSHA and EPA.
Maintains inventory and an adequate supply of parts and supplies frequently used in repairs, maintenance, and janitorial duties.
Prepares requisitions for necessary materials and supplies; and orders supplies using Government Purchase Card, keeping all required records, and submitting monthly reports.
Maintains all entries into MAXIMO for facility maintenance needs.
Provides training to lower-level maintenance employees in general maintenance activities.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, and/or designee.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation for Public Trust position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
- Must complete a pre-employment and annual physical that requires the ability to lift over fifty (50) pounds. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment.
- Must obtain and Maintain valid state driver's license.
- Direct Deposit of pay is required.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- U.S. Citizenship is required. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read printed material the size of typewritten characters without strain, is required.
- Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid is required.
- An amputation of arm, hand, leg or foot will not disqualify applicants. It may be necessary that such condition be compensated with use of satisfactory prosthesis that does not create safety hazard for self or others.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Education Requirement: A High School or General Education Development (GED) Diploma.
Related Experience: To qualify, there is a one (1) year of related experience in general maintenance or related work, demonstrating skill in at least three (3) skill/craft areas. All applicants must demonstrate the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
