This position functions as a Psychology Technician (Psychometrics) in the Mental Health Service (MHS), located at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Psychology Technician performs duties and assists in the day-to-day operation in the assigned clinical areas. The incumbent tracks scheduling, receives, and prepares patients for neuropsychological assessment.
Duties
Duties include, but are limited to:
Organize work to achieve approved goals, in regular communication with the responsible neuropsychologist, and consulting with the supervisor when problems are encountered.
Under the license of the responsible neuropsychologist, the incumbent functions as a relatively autonomous psychometrician in administering and scoring psychological test batteries administered to adult patients who may have a range of conditions including acquired brain injuries, psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, and developmental disorders.
Independently completes structured diagnostic and clinical assessments for patients and potential research participants. This requires knowledge of medical terminology such as psychiatric diagnostic categories.
Observes and notes significant behavior and response styles in the testing situation and assesses whether or not any circumstances in the situation will invalidate or significantly affect the data obtained.
Maintains an accounting system of available testing supplies including protocols and communicates upcoming ordering needs with the supervisor of geropsychology/neuropsychology (gero/neuro) and the purchase card holder.
Contacts patients through telephone calls to remind patients of their appointments. This requires substantial communication skills and the ability to remain well-organized.
Participates in daily activities of the assigned clinic and facilitates the flow of care. In cases where the evaluation is being conducted by video, the incumbent outreaches the patient by phone to conduct a technology check of device to be used for the appointment.
Develops a working knowledge of the clinical resources available at the ECHCS for the purpose of facilitating the assigned clinic's ability to provide up-to-date information to patients and refer to programs smoothly.
Maintain test records, the incumbent will close track protocols that have been or need to be scanned into the secure, digital system.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 07:30AM-04:00PM, 08:00AM-04:30PM

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/25/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: organize work to achieve approved goals, in regular communication with the responsible neuropsychologist; administering and scoring psychological test batteries administered to adult patients; observes and notes significant behavior and response styles in the testing situation; manages materials required for testing including maintaining manuals, stimulus books, manipulatives, and normative data; and facilitating replacements of these materials as needed; Participates in daily activities of the assigned clinic and facilitates the flow of care. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one year of graduate education in courses such as psychology, statistics, or other directly related subjects. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education.

Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary and requires some carrying of light items such as notebooks and papers. No excessive physical demands are required. The incumbent must be able to move about freely to various locations throughout the Medical Center and healthcare system sites.
