The Supervisory Social Worker-TRP is responsible for program development and service delivery for the TRP programs. Duties include development of services for veterans who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through out the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks Medical Center and it's seven (7) Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). The Supervisory Social Worker-TRP serves as the program coordinator for the TRP Programs and as supervisor for Social Workers on the PCT staff.

Duties, include, hiring of staff (treatment professionals and administrative staff), addressing employee disciplinary issues, patient complaints as they relate to the TRP staff and/or program in conjunction with the Associate Chief of Staff, Mental Health Service, Deputy Associate Chief of Staff, Mental Health Service, and Human Resources. The incumbent participates in Medical Center research by identifying questions and trends that should be studied as a basis toward improving aspects of treatment and/or physical or mental health care delivery to veterans as well as devising and carrying out studies designed to test appropriate hypotheses. Manages quality control and evaluation of services provided, utilizing both professional review and statistical outcome measures. These include the use of system standard data collection methods, as well as data collection methods developed to assess the treatment effectiveness of PTSD services specifically. The incumbent supervises and approves chart templates, consult mechanisms, including the consult tracking systems that meet the needs of Veteran's being treated for PTSD within TRP and comply with The Joint Commission and VA standards. Standards of Practice: The incumbent provides bio-psychosocial assessment and evidenced based psychotherapy to a population of veterans with PTSD. This population is generally avoidant, often without meaningful social support, has a moderate rate of suicide and who often has multiple co morbid conditions such as substance abuse/dependence, cognitive problems, depression, dissociative disorders, impulse control problems, and family/relational problems. Treatment provided is consistent with best practices and is generally evidence based, including, if indicated, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Seeking Safety, other cognitive behavioral therapies, psycho education, relaxation training and interventions with patient families when doing so will enhance the effectiveness of treatment. The incumbent makes independent treatment decisions that have significant consequences to his patients, including, involuntary hospitalization, consultation to other professionals and clinics for related care, treatment methods and interventions that may increase symptoms initially, and differential diagnosis that considers and documents multiple etiologies. The incumbent is aware of other clinic professionals and works with them for the benefit of the Veteran. Suggestions for treatment are discussed in multidisciplinary clinic staff meetings where oral and written information is presented. Discussion regarding treatment approaches and rationale for treatment decisions are offered. Education and Mentoring: The incumbent takes responsibility for improving professional skills, participating in planning and executing specialized TRP staff development projects and attending seminars and institutes. Training activities will be planned with the evidenced based treatment coordinator for providers of PTSD related services. The incumbent supervises the orientation/teaching/training of graduate social work students, and social workers who desire supervision for licensure who are practicing in the PTSD service delivery system. The Supervisory Social Worker-TRP facilitates/ encourages orientation/teaching/training of students of other disciplines in the TRP program. The incumbent develops and encourages trainings and workshops which are presented to non TRP program clinicians regarding treatment for PTSD and related issues. The incumbent disseminates pertinent information from the academic and Veteran Affairs research institutions for the benefit of the clinical members and encourages other program personnel to do likewise. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Grade Requirements: GS-13 Requirements Education and Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs in their resume: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.(c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. (d) Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. (e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service. (f) Ability to provide staff training and development. Note: KSAs must be clearly reflected in your resume under description of duties to be found qualified for this position/grade level. Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience; experience using EBPs for treatment of PTSD; experience with Joint Commission accreditation standards References: VA Handbook 5005/120, Part II Appendix G39, Social Worker Qualification Standard. The position is above full performance level of this vacancy (GS-13). Physical Requirements: Physical Demands: Physical aspects associated with work required of this assignment are typical for the occupation, see Duties section for essential job duties of the position. May require standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. May be required to wear personal protective equipment and undergo annual TB screening or testing as conditions of employment. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
