This position is located in the Public Affairs and Exhibits Office at the United States Mint at Denver. As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, you will be performing work involved in establishing and maintaining communications between Federal agencies, the general public, and various pertinent publics including internal, external, foreign or domestic audiences.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Plans, designs, develops, and executes specific assignments or recurring segments of public affairs programs that convey information concerning the agency's programs to individuals and organizations served or affected by those programs. Evaluates communication requirements associated with agency's programs, and recommends specific public affairs activities designed to meet these requirements, Analyzes information requirements in terms of public needs to be met and recommends approaches to resolve anticipated problems. Develops plans to disseminate information about agency's programs using a variety of methods and techniques to achieve communication goals. Identifies areas to be addressed in a campaign, characteristics and needs of the target audience, and most appropriate communication techniques. Develops and recommends approaches, training, newsletters, brochures, and educational media for providing information to the public, interested groups and employees. Personally prepares or supervises the preparation and/or edits a range of materials for release to various audiences, news releases, audiovisual materials, and internal briefing and reference materials. In the absence of the Chief of Public Affairs, serves as spokesperson for the agency in response to external queries. Establish and maintains effective working relationships with members of broadcast and print media, community relations, external organizations and other government agencies.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For GS-11: Specialized experience is 1 year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as: -Applying the principles and methods of written and oral communication; AND -Experience with using online publishing software, social media, or multimedia tools as communications strategies; AND -Knowledge of digital/photography publishing software and skill in shooting digital photography. OR A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. For GS-09: Specialized experience is 1 year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as: -Applying the principles and methods of written and oral communication; AND -Experience with using online publishing software, social media or multimedia tools as communications strategies. OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
