This position is located in the Engineering Construction Project Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC), in Phoenix, AZ. This position is a member of the PIMC internal construction project team and will provide plumbing knowledge, skill, and experience to the team. The position is that of a journeyman plumber and reports to the project engineer.

Duties

Performs repair and limited fabrication of plumbing systems on the entire hospital compound. Performs plumbing repairs by removing, rerouting (as needed), leaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility supply and disposal systems such as leaking section of pipe in walls, ceilings, under floors and in drain system. Threads pipes, determines and marks guidelines; places and connects air, natural or manufactured gas, sewage and water fixtures, such as hydrants, water mains, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, gas heaters, fire sprinkler systems and air compression equipment. Cleans obstructions in drainpipes and sewer lines, assembles pipe sections and fittings; installs and repairs valves, installs clean outs on sewer lines. Refers to prints (building and utility) for location of lines when difficult stoppages or leaks occur. Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures and accessories such as flush valves, traps, water heaters (gas and electric), faucets, water coolers, urinals, etc., by reconnecting equipment to already installed systems. **This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan/Merit Promotion Plan (ESEP/MPP) procedures. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: WG-4206-9: Following simple oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing plumbing tasks in making repairs, installing, and modifying of pipelines, including sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, and showers. (Screen out element) Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the Federal Wage System (FWS) Job Grading Standards. Applicants will be rated in the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Competencies/Abilities Rated: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Effort: The plumbing workers make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on being in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The plumbing workers frequently lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. The plumbing workers are sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. The plumbing workers occasionally make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. The plumbing workers have occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. The employees also have frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections. You must meet all qualification requirements within the closing date of the announcement.
