THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP.
This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number PDD1994000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard.
Duties
As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-10, you will serve as an aircraft and systems repairer for the UAS aircraft being deployed by the Army National Guard. The aircraft and systems maintained primarily involves those unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) where the aircraft relies on the Flight Control System to automatically set the main flight parameters based on navigational information input by the operator. The UAS mission involves a variety of functions such as surveillance, reconnaissance, combat search and rescue support, and potentially target illumination, laser targeting, etc. when airframe capabilities permit. This position is required to support and sustain a regular and reliable operator flight training program.
Responsible for conducting all -10 and -20 level maintenance, checks, and services. The systems supported include, however are not limited to:-Electrical Systems - Engine ignition, radio and lighting, radios, etc.-Mechanical Systems - Airframe, landing gear, control surfaces, etc.-Laser Tracking Systems - Target identification, hand-off, etc.-Avionics Systems - Navigation radios, communication radios, etc.-Laser Designating Payload - Used to actively designate for laser seeking ordnance (e.g. Hellfire)-Communications Payload - Used to provide extended communications to ground forces.
Responsible for electrical integrity of the UAS to include installation, calibration, and/or adjustment of electrical and electronic components, electrical and mechanical controls, and instruments. Responsible for assembly, pre-flight, launch and recovery, post-flight, disassembly, storage, and both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities. Repairs or replaces such things as faulty cannon plugs and pins, bad relays, circuit breakers, switches, wiring, worn cables or bearings, locking mechanisms, indicators, timers, solenoids, regulators, and actuators. Repairs and or adjusts a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engine(s), landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces. As a system diagnostic specialist, Tests and troubleshoots aircraft systems; determines when the systems are operating properly or whether portions of the system must be repaired or replaced. Determines the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed with use of specialized tools and test equipment, specific to aircraft repair work. Troubleshoots components during disassembly and functionally test components/ assemblies to determine the area of difficulty, parts required, and the methods and procedures to follow in completing work. Plans the work sequence, completes the work, perform various functional and operational tests, and make adjustments and alignments to ensure the components or assembly and its integral parts are functioning properly.
Maintains and supports the communications relay payload, laser spotter payload, laser designator payload, electro-optical (forward looking infra red sensor and television camera, and similar payloads and technology. Responsible for configuring payloads. As additional payload options become available, reconfigures the aircraft based upon the mission requirements. Responsible for pre-and post-inspection of the equipment, including however not limited to visual, condition and final inspections, maintenance operational checks, and incident/accident damage inspections, troubleshooting, identifying issues and concerns, making immediate repairs, replacement of parts, and referral to the appropriate specialist together with documentation.
Performs periodic and emergency Unit or Intermediate maintenance level inspections and tests to check UAS operability. Uses test equipment and measuring devices such as leak detectors, feeler gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, multi-meters, voltmeters, ammeters, and other applicable calibration instruments. May be required to use new, and system-specific test equipment to detect, isolate, and troubleshoot the aircraft or its payload. Performs on-the-job training and evaluates training effectiveness. Responsible for operator level maintenance on the UAS catapult launching system. Must coordinate with state level calibration office to insure tools are calibrated according to system requirements, regulations and SOP's.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
