About the Position: This position is located in the outpatient General Surgery Clinic, Department of Surgery, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. The General Surgery Clinic operates Monday through Friday from 0700-1530 with Federal Holidays and weekends off.
Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.
Duties
Provide full range of daily living assistance for all patients in the section.
Performs EKGs on patients daily, as required.
Transports patients in assigned units to and from radiology.
Decontaminates equipment on rotating basis as required by infection control guidelines.
Perform daily quality control and calibrations on all point of care laboratory equipment.
Provides logistical support during code situations.
Turns over each patient room in compliance with guidelines.
Maintains cleanliness of critical care storage rooms and supply areas.
Communicates through phone, fax, and paging as unit ward clerk.
Logs patient charts, admissions, and discharges.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing personal nursing care (i.e. taking and recording patient vitals, dressing changes, bathing, oral care, prepping and cleaning rooms); assisting physicians with minor procedures; and performing administrative duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify
