Physician Assistant for primary care delivery to a panel of patients whose primary areas of responsibility will involve performance of, and documentation of health care delivery for veterans according to VHA and LEXHCS PC standards.
Duties
The Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a fully accredited, two-division, tertiary care medical center with an operating bed complement of 199 hospital beds. Acute medical, neurological, surgical and psychiatric inpatient services are provided Cooper Division - Clinical Additional Entrance at the Cooper Division, located adjacent to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Other available services include: emergency care, medical-surgical unites, acute psychiatry, ICU, progressive care unit, (includes Cardiac Cath Lab) ambulatory surgery, OR/PACU, hemodialysis, medicine specialty clinics, surgery specialty clinics, and outpatient primary and specialty care.

The PA. will be fully qualified and certified to function in a clinical role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the LEXHCS. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the examination of claimants filing compensation and pension claims.
The PA practices primary care medicine with a focus on community-based outpatient clinical care.
Approximately 80% of the PA's time is dedicated to developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to the direct care of general medicine clinic patients.
The PA independently follows his own panel of general medicine patients, functioning as their primary care provider.
This primary care/gatekeeper role is incumbent with a high degree of responsibility and independence
The location of the CBOC away from the Medical Center means that
The PA's assessment skills and breadth of knowledge must be superior.
In addition, he/she must be a highly effective communicator in order to negotiate with consultants at the VAMC regarding the triaging of patients he refers.
These skills are required at a level that exceeds that of VAMC-based physician assistants.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Physician Assistant Basic Requirements
Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
