You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the DON US Naval Observatory of NAVOBSERV.
Duties
You will operate manual shop equipment, in accordance with standard shop safety practices.
You will program, setup, and operate CNC equipment.
You will design one-of-a-kind fixtures or instrumentation using CAD systems.
You will Perform maintenance to machining equipment and pneumatics.
You will maintain the maintenance of complex mechanical systems, which may require climbing to heights using ladders, cranes, and safety harnesses.
You will communicating scientific and technical material in both verbal and written formats to a wide range of audiences from astronomy experts and peers to government or international experts.
You will perform credit card purchases and maintain purchasing documents.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above):
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
In addition to basic requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience in machine shop setup, operating of manual mill, lathes, grinder, saws, measuring equipment, CMM, calibers, mic's and indicators;
Experience fabricating and modifying scientific instruments and or tooling, by setting up and operating manual CNC lathes and mills, this includes programming G code for the CNC equipment;
Experience in basic design principles and application, to include designing with CAD software, applying GD&T to the processes and understanding material properties to select appropriate material for the application;
Experience in basic mechanical and electrical techniques used to troubleshoot issues; and
Experience in basic welding and sheet metal; adhering to shop safety standards.
