This position, with the St. Paul District, serves as a maintenance worker performing a variety of maintenance, repair and operational duties.

Duties

Perform minor construction and repair on existing structures involving standard measurements, specifications, instructions, and basic shop mathematics. Complete needed repairs. Perform custodial services. Order parts and perform routine maintenance. Assist in installation, repair, replacement, maintenance and inspection of playground equipment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform a full range of maintenance duties associated with a variety of trades such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and other trades appropriate to this position. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Uses hand and power tools and equipment that may require standing and holding tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, climbing, and stooping. On site work requires strenuous physical exertion when handling heavy and bulky materials. Work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and rooftops. Frequently lifts and carries material and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy, with spray and fumes possibly present. May work in confined areas, such as crawl spaces and attics. In shops, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue, fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment including hazardous of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. The employee is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in all types of weather. The employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, contusions, burns, and infections. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones and electrical shock or burns. Protective equipment and clothing, such as safety shoes, earplugs, safety glasses or sun glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
