This position is in the Office of the Administrator (OA), Food Safety and Inspection Service. The Office of the Administrator oversees FSIS' major programs and has overall responsibility for all inspection and standard-setting activities.
Duties
Work with senior management officials to ensure the Administrator's program and policy goals and objectives are effectively carried out.
Assist the administrator in managing the daily priorities of the Agency by tracking projects, prioritizing and reprioritizing based on changing conditions, identifying potential issues, and identifying methods to expedite solutions.
Serve as senior advisor to the Administrator on policy and programs relating to identifying potential solutions, making recommendations, reviewing FSIS policies, and Federal Register Notices.
Ensures that the Administrator is prepared for meetings, speeches, interviews, and other engagements by maintaining advanced schedules, identifying potential needs (slides, bullet points, speeches, decision memos, and other documents).
Tasking FSIS program offices to prepare needed information, and reviewing, editing, and clearing the provided material for the Administrator in advance and before it is requested.
Requirements
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements (including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education) by the closing date of the announcement, as defined below:
Time in grade: Applicants must meet one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-14 grade level for consideration at the GS-15 grade level.)
For the GS-15 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-14 level) that demonstrates:
Experience serving as advisor to senior leadership officials on complex issues.
Experience reviewing and making recommendations on agency policies and procedures.
Experience identifying issues and identifying methods to resolve and recommend solutions.
Experience in administrative support for senior level leadership such as: managing daily priorities, prioritizing priorities based on changing conditions, maintaining advanced schedules, coordinate with program offices to identify potential taskings, prepare needed information, and to review/edit materials provided for presentations.
