Painter position is located at the Carpentry Shop of the Maintenance and Repair Section, Facility Management Service at V ACHS San Juan, Puerto Rico. The position is assigned to the surface preparation and painting of floors, walls, ceiling and roofs

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Paint mixing responsible of surface preparation, selection of paints, and required painting practices to produce the most desirable and economical finishing treatments for VA property and equipment. Applies and uses the most effective procedures of the trade for the execution of routine upkeep of building walls, partitions, ceilings and equipment in general. Follows established guides for the application and safety requirements in his trade to assure satisfactory painting progress based on the useful life of paint and painting existing building and equipment. Paints used are enamel, lacquers, sealers, wood preservatives, water repellent preservative and stains. Applies paints by brush, dip roller or spray. Removal of existing wallpaper paste and cove base and installation of new wall covering and new cove base. Completes other duties as assigned. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Must be in good physical conditions to spend considerable time standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, stooping and lifting moderate and heavy loads up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Most tasks will be performed indoors/outdoors, in high and low areas, in some areas with adequate ventilation but not air-conditioned.
