You will serve as an Aircraft Worker in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform work operations as specifically instructed by journey-level workers or training leader You will disassemble aircraft or major components for overhaul or modification. You will visually check removed parts and report unusual wear or damage, dirt, or poorly adjusted parts and accessories. You will work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, and instructions You will repair, restore, and remove composite or plastic parts and structures with surface damage such as chips, scratches, minor cuts, pits, abrasion, dents, surface ply rips, delamination, disbond, and bubbles. You will perform work involved in routine disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing, installation, and maintenance of aircraft electrical systems.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Position is subject to various noise levels, which continuously exceed 85 DBA. Hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 DBA.
  • Vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Disassembling, maintaining and repairing, and assembling fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies; 2) Performing a variety of metal repair, fabrication, plan layout and structural disassembly of aircraft and aircraft components; 3) Repairing, fabricating, modifying, removing, and installing composite and/or plastic items, parts, assemblies, and structures; and 4) Utilizing knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of plastic, composite, compound ingredients, metals, metal properties, and metal characteristics. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
