The primary purpose of this position is to be the primary Protocol Specialist for the commander's support staff, to plan, direct, organize, and provide administrative and logistical support, coordination with external agencies, implement policies and resolve issues in support of the protocol function of the 934th Airlift Wing.
Duties
Serves as Protocol Specialist by providing policy and procedural guidance for the Commander, Vice Commander, Director of Staff, and other applicable personnel concerning proper protocol requirements for visiting dignitaries, military ceremony conferences, official meetings, briefings, social functions, and special projects.
Advisor to the Commander, staff, and functional installation-level points of contact.
Prepares and updates presentations, protocol briefings/reports, correspondence and performs special projects.
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Traditional Reservists Section ensuring that the reservists compiles with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Serves as the resident subject matter expert for all mandated administrative support programs.
Assists in planning, administering, and monitoring manpower resource requirements.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Employee must be able to attend a two week Protocol fundamentals training course at Maxwell AFB, AL.
- Pre-employment physical is required. The physical requirements of this position as determined are: the ability to perform moderate physical activity involving lifting, brisk walking, and standing for long periods of time.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include scheduling and coordinating visits, agenda, briefings, and tours; planning, designing, arranging, and providing protocol briefings; monitoring manpower resource requirements; and composing various protocol correspondence.
OR
EDUCATION: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D.,(if related) in a field related to the position being filled. Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be combined with experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of, and ability to successfully apply military protocol, etiquette manuals and guides, USAF and Command policies, regulations, agency policy, practices and procedures to organize and oversee protocol events.
Knowledge of, and ability to successfully apply standard protocol courtesies to be accorded to distinguished visitors primarily from the United States and within the Department of Defense.
Knowledge and thorough understanding of regulations and procedures affecting Official Representation Funds (ORF), Special Morale and Welfare (SM&W) Funds and Operations and Maintenance Funds (O&M) and skilling in applying basic resource, budget and funds management.
Knowledge of organizational components and functions located throughout the agency.
Skill in fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of concrete action plans to solve problems.
Ability to independently plan individual workload to meet deadlines and coordinate event support requirements with a variety of organizations and use various office automation software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
