This position is located at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center, a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. The position is a Plumber Helper, responsible for assisting Plumber Workers with installing, modifying, and repairing utility, supply, and disposal systems, fixtures, fittings and equipment such as sewage, water, gas and oil lines, compressed air vacuum, and acid systems, water closets, water heaters, hydrants, valves and pumps.
Duties
Some duties may include:
Assists journey Plumbers with installations, repairs, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures such as sinks, showers, commodes, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposals, dishwashers, valves, pipe fittings, and pipes using hand and power tools.
Prepares site prior to beginning of project and remove unused materials, dirt, and debris when job is complete
Cleans work areas and keeps work benches clean and orderly and tools and machines lubricated.
Oversees the management and maintenance of tools and inventory.
Gets tools, supplies, and equipment needed to perform work.
Carries and holds materials in place during operations.
Prepares reports of findings to the supervisor and actions needed to be taken, including material used in making needed repairs through the work order system
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday / 08:00 am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The work requires the incumbent to band, stoop, crawl, walk, climb, jump, and lift heavy objects for moderate time durations. His/her efforts will vary depending on the task to be performed. The incumbent must be in a satisfactory physical and mental condition and fit for duty at all times, excluding body maintenance items.
Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and smelly, with frequent exposure to uncomfortable heat conditions and the possibility of broken bones, strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and infections.
