The selectee serves as an Information Technology Specialist with primary focus on specialized scientific and laboratory endpoint IT support for both the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and Agricultural Research Service (ARS) users at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center in a combined services environment.
Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Provides daily, customer focused technical support for researchers, technicians, administrative, and support staff for successful resolution of common hardware and software problems.
Provides in-depth technical expertise to team members including support to design features, hardware, software, or operating systems capabilities, and system integration.
Modifies hardware, software, and operating systems to meet user needs.
Supports laboratory and scientific IT programs and projects as project team member and as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to identify customer needs and system requirements.
Provides support for the Plum Island video teleconferencing (VTC) and room reservation systems, including support of the underlying system and its components.
Requirements

- Positions hired in Orient Point duty location will require daily travel to and from either Orient Point, New York and Plum Island, or Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Plum Island aboard Government-provided marine vessels.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Using helpdesk software for incident, knowledge, asset management, and ad hoc reports.
Troubleshoots hardware and software interoperability issues, documents resolutions and procedures.
Utilizes enterprise tools to image and deploy end user computers and software to minimize impact to customer activities.
Gathering information and developing recommendations for IT solutions to help better achieve the organization's objectives.
Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.
