This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) performing such duties as installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assembles, and components such as airframe, landing gear, power plant, gear boxes, pumps, and hydraulic, pressurization, utility, fuel, oil, pneumatic, and flight control systems and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. 1. Performs inspection and troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. 2. Positions, maintains, disassembles, repairs, and reassembles major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components. 3. Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair. 4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. 5. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. 6.Perform flight duties during maintenance test flights and functional check flights.

Qualifications

.QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 - Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an Aircraft Mechanic without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engines, landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces. 2. Knowledge of a wide variety of parts, components. subsystems: and assemblies such as ejection seats, nuclear shielding, or similar self-contained systems. 3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of supply procedures, the publications order system, tool, equipment and material accounting and security and documentation procedures. 4. Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, and external power sources. Skill in the operation of diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment/systems to identify proper and improper operation of aircraft systems, components, and parts. 5. Skill in reading and understanding instructions, specifications, blueprints, technical orders and data and settings from cockpit instruments and gauges. 6. Ability to rig, function test, or troubleshoot systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced; and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1: This is a drug testing designated position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. 2: Performs other related duties as assigned. Performs uncommon tours of duty. 3: The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required. 4: This is an Air reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30% of total responsibilities. Work schedules will be so aligned to allow the individual to function fully on unit training assembly (UTA) weekends. 5: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. 6. This position is designated by Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TOP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. As a mandatory requirement for employment in this TDP, the incumbent is (a) to refrain from use of illegal drugs and (b) if required, submit to urinalysis testing. The selectee/incumbent must sign statements acknowledging the position occupied is identified as a TOP. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (80 lbs. and over). Heavy carrying (45 lbs. and over). Reaching above the shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 Hours/day. Hours of sanding are 4 Hours/day. Hours of repeated bending are 4 hours/week. Climbing, us of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger I to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (with or without aid). If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors. in parked aircraft. and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others. Working alone. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
