About the Position: Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years.
Duties
Perform product verification through performance of a test, analysis, inspection, or demonstrations (or a combination of these).
Perform production verification through packing slips, purchase requests, purchase orders, contractual information, Certificates of Conformance (CoC), Certificates of Analysis (CoA), national stock numbers (NSN), part numbers, item numbers, etc.
Perform courtesy check to assist local metal parts manufacturing division in establishing acceptable methods and practices for fabrication to customer requirements.
Accept or reject material from results of inspection data, drawings, customer requirements, or contractual requirements.
Perform mechanical testing to include but not limited to, tensile, torsion, fatigue, fracture mechanics, compressive, and creep.
Determine proper condition codes of parts/components.
Serve as quality liaison for quality investigations of nonconforming material and controls nonconforming material.
Perform mechanical and mechanical properties testing to include but not limited to, impact, hardness, surface roughness, plating thickness, corrosion, porosity, ultrasonic, and leak.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
- Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles or the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.

Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years. Army employees who accept a time-limited appointment (to include employees with personal competitive status) will be separated at the end of the time-limited appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. There are no return/reemployment rights to the position vacated prior to accepting the time-limited appointment. The work of the position normally includes: Inspecting machined parts and materials for quality purposes within an organization; performing mechanical testing on products to analyze tensile, torsion, fatigue, fracture mechanics, compressive, or creep; and reviewing parts or materials for packing slips, purchase orders, contractual information, or purchase requests - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Inspector is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to feel, and be able to communicate effectively. Inspector is frequently required to walk in machine shop areas where fabrication is taking place to pull random samples. Inspector is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Inspectors must regularly lift or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift/move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Inspector is occasionally exposed to vibration. Inspector is frequently exposed to machine shop fabricating areas and their distinctive smells and solvents. Inspector may be exposed to mold release compounds, greases, oils, cutting, and/or hydraulic fluids from the machining/molding process. The noise level in the inspection areas is usually quiet; hearing protection is provided when noise levels are excessive. Inspectors regularly visit non-production areas to complete verifications. Non-production areas include inert magazines and inert shipping and receiving buildings.
