The incumbent serves as a Program Support Specialist on a Forest Service Unit and is responsible for the administrative support program to the Forest Leadership team.

Duties
Analyzes, plans, and implements new methods for coordinating the administrative work of a complex organization with centralized and decentralized organizational offices requiring administrative controls to accomplish the work of the organization.
Provides advice and assistance to the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor on administrative program operations and performs special projects as requested.
Responsible for calendars, meetings, and travel for the Forest Supervisor and Deputy Forest Supervisor and exercises exclusive control over their calendars, with complete authority for time commitments.
Schedules meetings and makes arrangements such as preparing agendas, notifying participants, reserving conference space and similar matters.
Develops background information, briefing materials and ensures supervisor has necessary information in advance of meetings.
Handles all travel logistics and travel itinerary for both and ensures they have all necessary briefings and logistical material in advance of travel. Ensures timely processing of travel reimbursements.
Responsibility for coordinating, evaluating, and proofreading all correspondence, assesses that all communications (written, verbal, visual, signed) are nondiscriminatory and sensitive to all employees and public.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-07. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; Specialized experience is defined as four or more of the following: Under supervision, analyzed and planned new methods and procedures designed to improve operations and administrative effectiveness within a staff; and/or Updated calendars and exercised limited control over time commitments; and/or Scheduled meetings and made arrangements such as preparing agendas; and/or Reserved conference space and notifying participants; and/or Arranged for travel, prepared itineraries, and assisted with preparing necessary documents for travel reimbursement; OR an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; OR Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
For the GS 09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Operated as an organization's office manager or executive assistant for top level management/executive staff managing the activities, correspondence, visitors and inquiries for top level managers/executives; and/or Maintained top level manager's/executive's appointment schedule by planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, and travel; and/or Advise leadership/management team of important issues that developed during their absence from the office; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
