You will serve as an Insulator Leader (Expert) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
You will serve an Expert Insulator Leader, in Shop 57, leading a group to ensure work assignments are carried out on any assigned shift.
Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.
Duties
You will independently measure, prefabricate, and install insulating materials to cover low and high pressure steam lines, chill water pipes, hot and cold water lines.
You will provide technical expertise on work instructions, interpreting instructions, and resolving problems for the insulator employees assigned to a project.
You will measure, layout, and fabricate portable insulation pads via hand sewing and sewing machines.
You will review Technical Work Documents (TWD), to determine the full scope of the work package, obtain and review all reference material, such as, blueprints, engineering notices, layout sketches, planning action requests, process instructions, etc.
You will conduct pre-work inspections to determine if the work is in compliance with the TWD requirements, and makes recommendations to resolve complex problems.
You will review procedures, material requirements, and perform worksite inspections to ensure work can be performed with first time quality.
You will order job related materials and consumables such as various types of insulation, drop cloth, tape, PPE, hazardous material, etc.
You will report to supervisors on the status and progress of work, nature of work delays, and answers questions on overall work operations and problems.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and undergo recurring physical examinations.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Work requires the ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships or submarines; and use of hands, legs and arms is required for climbing. Occasionally performs work from ladders, stepstools, staging or suspended scaffolding.
- This position may require rotating shift work.
- This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry loads or items up to 60 pounds in weight.
- Work may performed in inclement weather.
- This may be a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- The incumbent of this position must obtain, maintain and use a Government travel card.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- Work is performed in shop, dry-docks or aboard ships and submarines which may require prolonged standing, reaching, lifting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, working overhead, bending, crouching, or working in uncomfortable positions.
Qualifications
