This position is an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Helper at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center, VA Maryland Health Care System. The incumbent assists A/C Equipment Mechanics with the maintenance and repair of domestic and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, air cooling, chilled water, oxygen, natural gas, medical gas distribution systems, low voltage electrical controls for air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems at the Loch Raven VAMC and its CBOCs.

Duties

Major Duties May Include: Performs routine repetitive tasks of preventative maintenance actions such as oiling, greasing, changing air filters, light bulbs, clean filters and coils, etc. as assigned or to manufactures standards. Reads thermostats and makes adjustments for temperature control through Metasys (Building Management system) or manual overrides. Cleans tools, machines, and equipment and keeps work area clean and orderly. Assists with assembling and installing parts and equipment such as split systems, chillers, condensing units, rooftop units, exhaust fans, fan motors etc. by getting tools and supplies, carrying materials, and lifting and holding materials in place during operations. The incumbent assists in performing duties common to the trade. Detailed instructions are provided on new assignments along with close supervision and detailed review. The simple, routine tasks are performed without much supervision after they are learned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioner Equipment Mechanic Helper/PD233510 Physical Requirements: The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee handles, lifts, and carries, parts, tools and equipment. Light to Moderate physical effort is required. Incumbent may be required to frequently lift parts, tools, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Incumbent frequently bends, stoops, reaches and holds awkward positions due to the cramped spaces with a lot of equipment and pipes, or ducts in the way. Incumbent works in high areas due to equipment that is placed on the roof and sometimes not easily accessible. Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling are frequently for long periods of time.
