The Aircrew Program Manager (APM) is responsible for the adequacy of aircrew ground and flight training/testing and standards for specific aircraft of an assigned air carrier. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal Operations Inspector (POI). Manages programs on assigned aircraft including designated examiners and/or Aircrew Program Designees (APD).
Duties
Develops a work program to insure periodic surveillance of designated pilot and flight engineer examiners, pilot and flight engineer check airmen, and company training programs. Assures the assigned air carrier conducts flight crew training and testing required by appropriate FARs, FAA-approved training programs, and current testing standards. Oversees company check airmen and APDs. Serves as the technical advisor to the POI on assigned areas of the company's training and testing programs. Coordinates technical instructions, policy orders, and procedures through the POI to assure uniformity of training and testing activities. Conducts enforcement investigations and prepares final reports and recommendations on disposition. Performs or assists in the emergency suspension of airmen certificates. Conducts re-examination of certificated airmen. Conducts investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents. Recommends the designation of APDs and pilot examiners. Responsible for the conduct of ATP flight tests, additional type ratings, and Flight Engineer (F/E) certification; PIC, SIC, and F/E proficiency tests; SIC and F/E initial qualification tests, and Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT). Assures standardization of check airmen and designated examiners and recommends to the POI any changes which are considered necessary. Monitors assigned areas of the flight crew training program and associated records to insure compliance with pertinent FARs, national and regional directives, and safe operating practices. Monitors assigned air carrier ground and flight training. Attend certificate holder's company and safety meetings. Evaluates training program to insure that they meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Approves or disapproves these training programs including flight simulators, training devices, or other such equipment used in these programs. May require amendments to previously approved manuals to accomplish the following: correct any conflict with regulatory requirements; eliminate unsafe practices; and/or improve the specificity of instruction. May be assigned other duties and responsibilities which are nongrade controlling. The incumbent will be required to participate in the flight program as an aircrew member and, as such, must meet the medical and flight currency requirements as set forth in agency orders governing the operation of aircraft. The inspector, when so directed, is required to keep an appropriate control point informed as to his/her whereabouts and the telephone number at which he/she can be reached in the event of an aviation incident/accident requiring FAA investigation.

Aviation Safety Series, 1825Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job-related medical requirements. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of experience include: assisting, conducting, or performing various technical functions related to certification, surveillance, investigation, and enforcement activities.In addition, when the predominant work involves General Aviation Operations, applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) positions must meet all of the following requirements:Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with single and multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings. Must have given a minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction in an aircraft.Professional flying skill as demonstrated in a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating;Possession of Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
