This position performs work related to the processing of incoming and outgoing mail and the performance of related work requiring the application of established mail method and procedures. Performs various related clerical duties such as facing, sacking, bundling, wrapping of outgoing materials, sorting bulk mail from post office, rerouting misdirected mail, date stamping, counting mail and screening priority items.
Duties
Major duties for this position may include (but are not limited to):
Sorts all incoming and outgoing mail, routing incoming mail by general subject matter to delivery points within the hospital.
Processes incoming materials, including mail, publications, and directives. Determines full routing, number of copies required, and assigns due date for replies and follows up on over-due correspondence.
Routes non-controlled materials to unit or units by addresses, office symbol, organization numeric code, or by subject-matter content.
Operates postal equipment, and office copiers.
Works with different types of mail and recognizing which procedure is appropriate for each type (e.g., registered, insured, certified, security classified, etc.) and distinguishing among a large umber of distribution points when the functions of the service units overlap.
Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications

Time-In-Grade Requirement: There is no Time-In-Grade requirement for the GS-4 grade level of this position.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Experience: Must have one year of general experience as identified in the assessment questionnaire. OR
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two years above high school level. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school level.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily performed while sitting, but does require occasional periods of standing, walking, bending, or carrying of light objects such as letter trays, file folders, etc. The work is performed in an office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
