The Supervisory Social Science Program Specialist is responsible for planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of his/her employees. These duties include, but are not limited to: scheduling adequate staffing for evening and overnight shifts, 7-days a week coverage and re-arranging staff schedules to accommodate leave requests with minimal use of overtime expense.
Duties
The Supervisory Social Science Program Specialist duties are as follows:
Responsible for planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of his/her employees which include scheduling adequate staffing for evening and overnight shifts, 7-days a week coverage and re-arranging staff schedules to accommodate leave requests with minimal use of overtime expense.
Responsible for coordinating training for new and existing employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Educates and orients new staff to the program and its practices.
Informs and educates staff regarding procedures, policies, directives, etc., and obtains needed information or decisions from the Domiciliary Chief when problems occur.
Responsible for Environment of Care provided to the Veterans in the DRRTP; room assignment, residents' room. inspections, and has oversight for residents' assignments in maintaining a clean environment while reporting damages and other problems related to the environment.
Oversees the Equipment Inventory Listing and prepares necessary documents to the accession and de-accession of property.
Conducts period surveys of equipment and property to ensure that economic and efficient use is made of equipment and other property to the effective functioning of service needs.
Recommends improvement opportunities to DRRTP Chief and implements decisions.
Reviews and evaluates guidance on various functions and procedures, identifies problem areas and implements actions to improve procedures, eliminate problems, and conform to policy requirements.
Prepares and submits requests such as recruitment, promotion, reassignment, disciplinary actions etc., and keeps and audit trail for requested action to ensure requested actions are accomplished in a timely manner.
Works as a team member of the DRRTP; provides input to clinical team members as needed related to the care and treatment of Veterans in the program. The Specialist works to resolve issues related to the complexity of the patient mix as well as the unpredictability of what may occur within the treatment setting and provides crisis intervention as needed.
Meets with Veterans to resolve issues/concerns and/or recommends follow up action and assures that documentation provided for such issues/concerns are filled out thoroughly and completely to assure timely follow up.
Responsible for reviewing the work of Domiciliary Assistants for thoroughness and compliance to policy and care plans.
Responsible for assigning work assignments considering difficulty, requirements, and capabilities of the subordinates; sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work for subordinates under supervision.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/20/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of Residential experience working in a Domiciliary Environment. Also must be proficient in understanding of the scope and function of domiciliary assistants and rules and procedures.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is often sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there is walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers and books, and driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
