The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) leads the nation's effort to protect the United States from terrorism by integrating, analyzing and sharing information to drive whole-of-government action and achieve our national CT objectives.

Duties

The National Counterterrorism Centers Directorate of Intelligence (NCTC/DI) seeks a motivated intelligence analyst to join a high-performing team of officers focused on counterterrorism data analytics. Qualified candidates can anticipate challenging and rewarding responsibilities involving rigorous research, pursuit of information, and collaboration to develop unique and insightful analysis that help policymakers make informed national security and foreign policy decisions. In these duties, you will have the opportunity to: Advance data-driven analytic work on counterterrorism issues and independently identify key areas of research. Translate complex, technical findings into an easily understood narrative, including through the appropriate and creative use of visualizations and within technical documentation for a range of operational and policy customers. Design, create, and modify approaches using data science approaches, such as machine learning or artificial intelligence, and analytic methodologies to help answer intelligence questions. Challenge assumptions, actively participate in peer review, and collaborate with teammates on projects. Apply a full range of methodological tools and approaches to gain a comprehensive understanding of complex and significant analytic issues and incorporate insights and findings into well-crafted, sophisticated intelligence products.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen residing in the United States
  • Appointment is subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI)
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • A two-year trial period is required for all new permanent appointments to the ODNI.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of Python and/or Tableau. Demonstrated ability to perform data science projects from start to finish, including applying machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches. Extensive experience producing full range of all-source intelligence analysis and familiarity with a wide range of IC data sets. Demonstrated ability to apply intellectual curiosity; apply creativity and innovation to go beyond current tools to deliver the best solution to complex problems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team or collaborative environment, and mentor junior colleagues. Demonstrated success at building consensus across cultural and organizational boundaries to drive change. Willingness to multitask and change focus quickly as demands change. Bachelor's degree or commensurate training and/or experience in a quantitative or technical field of study, such as data science or a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. Extensive knowledge of individual, organizational, and technical or transnational issues of national security concerns, especially terrorism. Demonstrated experience in applying advanced qualitative and quantitative analytic methodologies to the terrorism problems set. Demonstrated ability to lead and promote the development and use of a broad range of methodological tools and approaches to research, analyze, and present data (modeling, link analysis, or software).

Education

Bachelor's degree or commensurate training and/or experience in a quantitative or technical field of study, such as data science or a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.
