THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This Air National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1525000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW, National Guard.
This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 114 (Smoky Mountain Chapter).
Duties
As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC WG-8852-12 (TITLE 32) you will direct, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Ensure aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) accurately reflect the airworthiness of the Aircraft. Perform in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul and/or modification to verify and certify by signature adherence to work techniques, procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Plan, develop and conduct training during the technician work week to a multi facet workforce comprised of from 3 to 8 assigned military positions. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises and Operations Other Than War (OOTW). Comply with safety, fire, security, environmental and housekeeping regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

- Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
Qualifications
Military Grades: E-4 through E-7
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience performing, coordinating and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Experience coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Experience with installing, adjusting, aligning, and troubleshooting a variety of major aircraft systems. Experience as technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs to their assigned aircraft. Experience determining when the nature and scope of repair involves other trades, e.g., engine mechanics, electricians, electronics mechanics, or integrated systems mechanics and coordinate the work of these individuals with the other trades.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months experience or 1 year at the next lower level operational and integration of all mechanical, pneudraulic, electrical, electronic and other operating systems of the assigned aircraft in order to troubleshoot malfunctions from pilots and flight crew reports of discrepancies, as well as from observations during inspections and run-ups. Experience with the startup, operation, shutdown, and emergency procedures for the systems and the aircraft; symptoms of normal and abnormal operation; the inter-relationships between operating systems; and activity safety procedures in order to prevent damage to equipment or injury to personnel. Experience and sufficient knowledge of the work of associated trades such as sheet metal, painting, aircraft electrical, electronics, and aircraft engine work to determine when work should be assigned to specialized support shops, be able to calculate time and workspace required in order to coordinate the work of other mechanics and determine when the work is properly done and signed off so that the aircraft is airworthy. Experience analyzing changes to the guidelines, as well as maintenance modification orders, to determine material, equipment, and personnel needs and to perform technical reviews of the guidelines, to locate discrepancies or propose improvements to methods or specifications. Experience with historical maintenance requirements of assigned aircraft in order to participate in pre-inspection meetings and ensure that any deferred maintenance is included on the schedule.
