About the Position: Serves as a mail clerk in the Installation Official Mail and Distribution Center of the United States Army Garrison at Fort Wainwright responsible for receiving, sorting and processing mail.
Duties
Receives and processes all outgoing official mail for the installation.
Operates the Mail Management System, a computer-based mailing/accounting system capable of organizing activities involved in the processing of mail (letters, packages, etc.).
Performs other related duties as bundling and sacking of outgoing mail in accordance with class of mail and destination.
Performs postal file functions determining applicable retention and disposal authorities, screening and preparing files for retention and disposal.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical for the lifting requirement of up to 70 lbs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license to operate government vehicle.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience GS-5: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mail room duties such as routing mail for an organization and/or tracking incoming and outgoing mail. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as along as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
