This position is organizationally aligned under the Grounds and Transportation Unit, Environmental Management Service at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Hampton, Virginia.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Posses and maintain a valid driver's license and CDL license (Class C with P endorsement) in the Common Wealth of Virginia to drive vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers including the driver.
Serves the transport needs , coordinate, beneficiary travel, and reduce unnecessary payments for special modes of transportation by operating medical transport services as well as regular transportation.
Operate various types of vehicles primarily to transport patients.
Assists with vehicle dispatch and clerical duties associated with transportation operations.
Driver's operate on or more motor vehicles which typically consists of passenger buses and vans which have an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 14,400 kilograms (32,000 pounds).
Driver's perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated.
Complete such paperwork as trip tickets and preventative maintenance records.
Driver's operate passenger ambulance buses which are equipped with special-purpose accessory equipment know how to operate power takeoff controls of equipment with more complex functions.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 09:00AM-5:30PM. Maybe required to work on weekends and Federal Holidays.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Effort is required to control vehicles that carry large numbers of people or heavy loads. Make frequent arm and leg movements to operate various controls. Driver may be required to assist patients into and out of vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending. Considerable physical exertion may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways.
Working Conditions: Operates vehicles in all types of weather and traffic conditions and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Works inside and outside and is subject to drafts, noise, and varying temperatures. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and fumes. Follows prescribed safety practices.
