About the Position: The position is located in the OB/GYN Department, Women's Health Service Line, Director, Fleet and Family Medicine, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. The purpose of the position is to perform specialized obstetrical and gynecological examinations.

Duties
Performs and interprets a wide range of specialized obstetrical and gynecological ultrasonography examinations to detect structural malformations in the fetus.
Prepares the patient for examinations.
Consults with the referring physician.
Maintains availability for emergency ultrasounds.
Assists credentialed staff physician in the input of information into the database for computer analysis of ultrasound reports.
Recognizes a diagnostic scan and interprets it but does not necessarily give an official reading.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 3 security investigation with Childcare Background Check.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TOP) subject to applicant testing and random employee drug testing.
- In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15C employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

- This position requires TB testing is required.
- This position may require work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience includes performing a variety of complex ultrasound examinations of obstetric, fetal and gynecologic patients to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of structural and functional abnormalities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Sonography or Radiology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: I have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
