This position is located at Friendship Hill National Historic Site and Flight 93 National Memorial in the Interpretation Division. 1 vacancy will be filled at Friendship Hill National Historic Site, 1 vacancy will be filled at Flight 93 National Memorial. Duties

All applicants must submit their most recent performance appraisal showing the official rating of record and signed by a supervisor or, if one is unavailable, a statement as to why it is not available (including if any prior performance appraisals/evaluations were at an acceptable level). Failure to submit will result in loss of consideration due to an incomplete application package. It is your responsibility to ensure all required documents have been submitted. As a Park Guide GS-0090-05 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Researches, prepares and presents established talks normally following a prescribed outline requiring application of broad subject-matter knowledge of the park and associated resources to groups of up to 200 visitors. Provide detailed and specific interpretation and explanation of the outstanding features of the site from the standpoint of scientific or historical interest, the background of events leading up to feature or phenomenon, the facts, events, personalities and circumstances. Provides general information about other sites of public interest; facilities for public use; pertinent rules and regulations; and other matters designed to stimulate a sense of appreciation and thus encourage protection and preservation of the scenic, scientific or historic features. Answers a wide variety of visitor questions regarding major interests of visitors, or the nature of the talks, explanation and description of the background of the events leading up to the natural or scientific development, introduction discussion of an extensive body of facts, events, personalities and circumstances. Provides guided tours to groups up to 50 people to maintain order in the parties, prevent crowding or damage to historic sites, and take appropriate action in cases of emergency until relieved. Provides a wide range of services to visitors, including assistance with lost articles, car trouble, first aid, weather condition, directions, facilities, area accommodations, events or safety hazards.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/16/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. This experience includes activities such as park guide or tour leader, naturalist, environmental educator or teacher or similar work. You must include hours per week worked. OR Have at least four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as American history, science and/or public speaking. OR A combination of education and experience as described above. PLEASE NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts, or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies each course, college or university, semester or quarter hour earned, grade received, and date completed. If you fail to submit, your application will not be considered, and you will be rated ineligible. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST: 1. Clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, title of position, starting and ending dates of employment (month and year). 2. Must reflect work schedule as full-time and/or part-time and the total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time or part-time). 3. If part-time, (the number of hours worked must be indicated) and will be pro-rated to determine the amount of qualified specialized experience. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must have at least four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as American history, science and/or public speaking.

You must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
