The Clerk's Office is seeking an individual looking for a challenging, interesting, and rewarding career in public service to serve as a Briefing/Records Clerk in the Operations Division.
Duties
Briefing/Records Clerks are responsible for reviewing and processing briefs, appendices and records under the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (FRAP), 11th Circuit Rules and Internal Operating Procedures.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Process briefs, appendices, and records under Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (FRAP), 11th Circuit Rules and Internal Operating Procedures.
Issue prepared notices to counsel and parties; review incoming documents, briefs and appendices to determine conformity with court rules; notify parties of deficient documents.
Process filings consistent with established procedures and route to offices/persons after acceptance.
Scan and convert documents as needed into imaged files.
Docket events in the electronic filing/case management system (CM/ECF).
Answer routine inquiries on status of briefing schedules, briefs and appendices requirements and procedures.
Verify certification of the record on appeal from the U.S. District Courts within the circuit; request those portions of the lower court's record that are not available electronically and review the documents for completeness and compliance with 11th Circuit Rules.
Complete checklist form for final review of case prior to submission.
Compile electronic records on appeal.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience for placement at salary levels above minimum.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the possession of, or the ability to acquire, the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the position's duties.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources/payroll operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures as well as proficient computer skills, i.e., word processing, is preferred. Prior work experience in a municipal, county, state, or federal court is also preferred. Additionally, a bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution is preferred.
