This position is located within Engineering Service at the Hudson Valley Health Care System - Montrose location and is part of an upward mobility program.
Duties
**May require travel to the CBOCs and each campus to perform the functions of the position**
The incumbent will assist higher graded maintenance staff who are performing work such as those listed below:
Installation of office and institutional furniture.
Hanging pictures, bulletin boards and signage, etc.
Installation of dispensers such as; hand/soap, paper towel, etc.
Installing various types of window treatments and the installation and replacement of carpeting and cove base.
Installation, maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems associated with fixtures, equipment in industrial, institutional, office and residential buildings.
Replacing ceiling tile and floor tile that have been damaged, broken or stained.
Maintenance on windows, checking and replacing parts
Make visual, audible, electrical and mechanical checks on various systems.
Installing carpet and cove base. Preparing surfaces for flooring and carpet including stripping and removing residual adhesive with manual and mechanical means.
Incumbents may also assist with duties which include replacing bulbs and resetting breakers, clearing stoppages in sinks, toilets, and drains; tightening connections, cleaning and lubricating moving parts; testing for proper operation and assists with replacement of items such as motors, fans, thermostats, fuses and filters. Assists with various floor material installation.
Responds along with journeyman to calls related to:
- Water leaks of any kind.
- Calls for room temperatures too cold and/or too hot (thermostat/fan coil motor/filters) as needed.
- Minor repairs to doors, handrails etc.
Incumbent adheres to policies consistent with maintenance and facility guidelines, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The duties require considerable movement around the hospital and involve bending, lifting, work from ladders and scaffolding and platforms, both in and outside the building, and crawling through restrictive areas.
The incumbent must occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing fifty pounds or more with proper equipment. Assignments may require him/her to stand, stoop, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
The incumbent is exposed to extremes of heat and cold, dust, dirt, noise, grease, bad smelling fumes, and moisture, as well as outside the normal indoor environment of the hospital. The work environment includes crawl spaces and interstitial spaces.
May occasionally be exposed to disease, bad weather, possible electric shock, refrigerant gases, danger of falling, hand or power tools, danger from flying splinters and chips, respiratory ailments. May have frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, infections, cuts, and bruises.
Occasionally required to wear protective clothing which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Required to follow proper procedures and wear proper protective equipment to minimize risk.
