The Interior Designer performs technical, administrative, and professional work involving managing, administering, operating, or supporting services and programs. The incumbent engages in activities related to the management and/or administration of facilities, building interior design environments to promote employee productivity, health, and welfare.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Performs professional architectural/interior design duties relevant to coordinating or monitoring the planning, designing and construction of improvements to hospital facilities.
Determines the requirements for maintaining adequate interior finishes of facilities and for the improvement of existing facilities.
Prepares necessary visual aids, such as architectural drawings, sketches, renderings, and color boards;
Prepares floor plans, furnishings and accessory selections.
Prepares and maintains interior design budget - develops, prepares and reviews cost estimates.
Prepares and reviews construction specifications for construction projects including materials, finishes, construction processes and other items of technical information.
Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) to maintain accurate records of projects.
Performs surveys of buildings to maintain overall awareness of facilities and general environmental conditions.
Conducts independent investigations and feasibility studies.
Advises on adequacy and adaptability of space.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive resource library of interior design literature.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, Compressed Work Schedule is Authorized.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you MUST meet the following requirements.
GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an Interior Designer GS-09. Specialized experience includes: Experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as:
Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment.
Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings.
Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context.
Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcripts Required) Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, with major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Transcripts Required) Equivalent combination of successfully completed higher level graduate education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meets the total experience requirements for this grade level.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
