You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT, (300N), OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will remove and replace electrical fixtures and controls. You will operate and maintain HVAC systems and ductwork/vents inside radiological controlled areas. You will plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment. You will produce requested carpentry and woodworking products to support shipyard maintenance work. You will prepare and coat different types of surfaces by matching, tinting, toning, and blending coating materials, and agents.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a radiological worker qualification.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Must be skilled in at least two of the following trade occupations: Radioactive Material Control (RAMCO), electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Pipefitting, Carpentry, Painting, and/or Insulation. *Planning, computing, and laying out projects using shop mathematics. *Interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints. *Servicing and up keeping of vessels, and maintenance of radiologically controlled buildings. *Using tools and equipment common to the trade.
