This position is located in the United States Mint's Editorial and Historical Reference Branch within the Administration Division of the Sales and Marketing Directorate. The Writer-Editor researches and develops a wide variety of materials, with focus primarily on marketing communications, policy and outreach within the United States Mint and to its external audiences and customers.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Writer-Editor, you will:
Develop, write and edit a wide variety of communications, policy and outreach materials for a diverse audience, including the general public, numismatic customers, Mint employees, Mint supervisors and senior management, and officials at the Mint and Treasury.
Conduct extensive research, analysis and interpretation of information from a wide range of documents, some historical in nature, to develop innovative written products that clarify issues or explain technical aspects of programs and policies; present coin/medal designs within an historical context for both a general audience and the numismatic community; and conduct some review and evaluation of historical content as it relates to agency history.
Research and analyze factual and conceptual information about department, division and branch programs and policies, accessing a variety of documents, sources and subject matter experts; interpret concepts and themes, reconciling contradictions in the information gathered; and integrates information into a variety of formats.
Develop publications that interpret and explain important, highly complex and potentially controversial information concerning programs, policies and activities in a manner that is clear and meaningful to intended audiences and conforms to agency and federal policies.
Evaluate potential and existing problems and challenges encountered in communicating programs and policies; advise on and recommend specific information activities or communications tools/products; and propose changes in agency editorial and publishing policies and practices.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Writing, editing and producing complex documents for publication using plain language; AND
- Synthesizing complex technical information; AND
- Researching, developing, reviewing, and presenting information; AND
- Using desktop publishing hardware and software to draft, edit, and design documents.
Specialized experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Researching and developing a wide variety of materials, with a focus on marketing and outreach, that requires identifying many different and unrelated processes and methods; AND
- Making decisions concerning interpretation of data or refinement of the methods and techniques to create a variety of marketing materials and informational memoranda.; AND
- Analyzing and presenting information to varied audiences; AND
- Disseminating information to the public using organizational point of view.
Specialized experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Gathering, developing, and checking the accuracy of information; AND
- Completing a variety of conventional work assignments, problems, questions, or situations related to marketing in conformance with established criteria.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR
LL.M., if related, in an accredited college or university.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
