Duties

The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity. Respond to written and oral inquiries from the public, other organizations, governmental agencies. Provide non-routine information and assistance on complex applications to applicants/petitioners and/or their legal representatives in response inquiries on all aspects of immigration and nationality law. Research basic eligibility for benefits and privileges under the final approval of a senior employee or supervisor. Perform appropriate record keeping and reporting tasks and capturing essential statistical data for monthly reports and assists in the preparation of those reports. Provide office automation advice, guidance, and assistance to staff. Perform case file analysis and evaluation of cases where adjudication or resolution has been delayed and/or problems encountered.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/11/2023. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/11/2023. As a CIS Assistant OA, you will respond to written and oral inquiries from the public, other organizations, governmental agencies, Congressional offices and provide information and assistance on applications to applicants/petitioners and/or their legal representatives. GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing information for accuracy, validity, or proper format; Using computer software such as spreadsheets, databases, or word processing; Organizing or compiling information in an office setting; Interacting with customers to respond to inquiries. OR You may substitute successful completion of 4 years above high school for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. GS-06: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), to qualify at the GS-06 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing documentation for routine requests or applications; Interacting with customers to provide guidance on administrative procedures; Maintaining data for reports or supervisory inquiries; Routing office support materials to the appropriate person or location. GS-07: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), to qualify at the GS-07 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing routine documents or applications for benefits; Analyzing cases to respond to customer inquiries regarding benefits; Using computer software programs to prepare reports for leadership; Creating and maintaining files in accordance with office procedures.
