About the Position: The work involves providing transportation and service to a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and all tenant commands. This position is established to operate automotive vehicles of all types and sizes in support of the mission.

Duties

Operates gasoline driven trucks or truck tractors with trailer or Semi-trailers coupled by use of a turntable (fifth wheel) or pintle (pivot) hook. Operates gasoline driven trucks or truck tractors with trailer or Semi-trailers coupled by use of a turntable (fifth wheel) or pintle (pivot) hook. Hauls personnel, articles, materials, office equipment, and related items on and off post on public roads and highways within the mid-Atlantic region. Oversees the loading, lashing, and securing of cargo on the trucks; ensures vehicle is not loaded beyond the rated capacity; completes trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records; fills out driver's accident reports in case of accident Performs driver's maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• The position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and a biannual examination thereafter.
• The position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter.
• Incumbent is required to possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license.
• Incumbent must have valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with an air brake and passenger endorsement; and, add HAZMAT endorsement, if required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Must wear appropriate safety equipment, e.g., safety shoes; these are provided by the employer. Exerts moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears, and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: When driving, the operator works inside the vehicle. However, when loading, off-loading or servicing the vehicle or performing emergency repairs, he/she may be exposed to temperature extremes, snow, rain and other adverse weather conditions. Vehicle is normally operated in heavy traffic, and occasionally on roads that are covered with snow, ice or water. The driver may sustain cuts, bruises, broken bones and other physical injuries as a result of accidents, or while loading or off-loading cargo.
